Dear all,
1.) Weekly meeting:
We will be meeting as usual in room 559 on Tuesday at 7pm.
With events in Libya ongoing we will hopefully discuss these once more
in a Security Council simulation. (In the seemingly unlikely event
that the issue goes away before Tuesday we will select a different
topic)
2.) AGM Tuesday 8th March
The following is a brief summary of some of the duties included for
each position on the committee. This is not exhaustive and nor is
meant only as a guide, it will be up to the elected committee to
decide who takes which jobs within the society. In the past there have
also been other positions available, but we feel it would be better to
elect a core committee who can then decide what extra positions they
wish to have, or whether they prefer to subsume those roles into their
own.
We would like to emphasise that attendance of meetings should be
expected of committee members (with reasonable exceptions of course).
It is expected that by taking on a position of responsibility you
should then also give the society a degree of precedence. It will of
course be up to the elected committee to decide on the day and time of
the regular meetings.
President (Secretary-General)
In overall charge of the society and responsible for representing
SOASMUN within the SOAS SU. Duties include deciding on the make-up of
the committee and overseeing other’s roles as well as running the
SOASMUN weekly meetings, forging links with other MUN societies. The
President is also likely to take on the role of chief organiser of the
SOAS International conference.
Secretary
The overall second in command of the society, expected to cover in the
case of the President’s absence. Basic duties will include responding
to queries, publicising the society through Facebook and Twitter and
taking notes of official AGMs.
Treasurer
Responsible for handling the finances of the society, preparing a
budget with the rest of the committee, applying for union
re-imbursements and keeping track of spending. The Treasurer is also
in charge of seeking extra funds for the society in addition to those
received from the Union, through sponsorship and any other
initiatives.
Director of Community Programmes
For the past two years SOASMUN has been heavily involved in Global
Classrooms, helping local London schools at their MUN conferences. The Director of Community Programmes will be in charge of continuing SOASMUN’s
links to Global Classrooms and looking to get people from SOAS
involved with their activities.
Finally during the AGM we will also entertain motions regarding the
upcoming student elections and vote on which candidates, if any, the
society would like to officially endorse.
Regards,
SOASMUN
